I hadn’t until just a few days ago. Now, I can’t stop thinking about them.
I came across Leanne Lucas on Good Morning Britain, a survivor of last summer’s devastating stabbings in Southport. Her message was powerful and clear, fronted by her growing campaign: #LetsBeBlunt.
The concept? Surprisingly simple replace sharp, pointed kitchen knives with blunt-tipped alternatives. You still slice, you still chop, but the risk of these tools being used in violent attacks particularly involving young people or impulsive decisions is drastically reduced.
Leanne’s story is heart-breaking. She endured life-changing injuries and lost friends in a horrific act of violence. But she’s turning that trauma into something impactful campaigning for a small change in our homes that could help prevent future tragedies.
And the momentum is growing. Chefs, public figures, and even major supermarkets are backing the initiative. Some have already started stocking safer kitchen knives as part of their commitment to knife crime prevention.
